The KL to Muar distance is not far at around 185 kilometres. You can drive this in only two and a half hours depending on traffic and road conditions.
BEST OPTION: How To Go From Kuala Lumpur To Muar
The quickest and best option for travelling from KL to Muar is to take a private taxi.
The cheapest option is to take a bus.

Option 1: Bus From KL To Muar
There are many bus KL to Muar options, and they leave frequently throughout the day and evening starting from around 8am. At most, they are just an hour apart.
Many bus companies operate on this route, such as City Holidays Express, Mayang Sari Express, Top Liner Express, Supernice Grassland and KPB Ekspres.
A bus takes around three hours, depending on traffic.
In Kuala Lumpur, buses leave from TBS (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan). If you want to travel from KL Sentral to Muar, you can catch a KTM Komuter train between KL Sentral and TBS first or take a taxi. Then, you can take a TBS KL to Muar bus.
A KL to Muar bus ticket starts at around RM18.

Option 2: KL To Muar Train
There are no trains between KL and Muar. However, if you love trains so much that they are the only way you want to travel, it is possible to get some of the way to Muar.
- Take a train from KL Sentral to Gemas. This takes about 2.5 hours and only runs a couple of times a day
- Take a train from Gemas to Segamat train station. This does not run often either and takes 36 minutes
- Walk to the nearby Segamat Bazar Terminal. From here, take bus 65 to Muar. This takes two hours
I do not recommend you travel between KL and Muar using this method. Nothing connects nicely and you’ll take longer and spend more money than taking the bus. Set off early if you do to ensure you arrive in Muar within the same day.
Option 3: KL To Muar By Car
It’s very straightforward to travel this route by car. The distance from KL to Muar is not big, and most of the way is on the major AH2 highways. Note, there are tolls if you travel on this road.
You need to turn off this road on to highway 23 which will take you to the outskirts of Muar.

Option 4: KL To Muar By Taxi
By far the easiest, quickest and most comfortable way to get between KL and Muar is to take a taxi.

Bus Muar to KL options are throughout the day starting from 6am and ending around 10:45pm. There are many bus lines and they run frequently. A Muar to KL bus ticket costs around RM18+.
They depart from Terminal Bentayan which is centrally located by the river in Muar. If you don’t already have a ticket, “helpers” approach newcomers to the station eager to help 🙂
It’s not a big terminal, so it’s easy to navigate. There are a couple of stalls for last minute snacks and a waiting area.
