Langkawi Ferry Line is the company that operates the passenger ferry from Kuala Perlis to Langkawi. This ferry departs the Kuala Perlis Jetty, and arrives at Kuah Jetty in Langkawi. Kuah Jetty can also be called “Jetty Point Complex” which is the name of the shopping centre that connects to Kuah Jetty.
From Kuala Perlis Jetty to Langkawi, these ferries sail up to five times a day from 6:30am to 7/8pm.
The travel time is approximately an hour and 15 minutes, and the cost of a one-way ticket is RM47 for an adult.

The Wantas Roro, Langkawi Roro and Langkawi Auto Express all operate car ferries on this route that depart daily. These services take approximately two hours and fifteen minutes. A sample fare from Wantas Roro is RM26 for a Malaysian adult or RM45 for a foreigner.
The car ferries arrive at Jetty Langkawi (Tanjung Lembung). This is a more convenient spot if you are heading to the main beach area of Langkawi around Pantai Cenang.
It’s important to book ahead as the ferries do sell out at times especially on weekends and holiday periods.

If you buy your tickets in advance, you can go straight to the waiting area on arrival at Kuala Perlis Jetty by scanning the QR code on your ticket. Otherwise, you need to join the lines of people waiting to buy tickets.

The passenger ferry from Kuala Perlis to Langkawi costs around RM45 for an adult. To avoid long queues and the hassle of buying your tickets at the jetty, you can purchase your ferry ticket here.

Vehicle ferry prices depend on the operator, vehicle type and engine capacity. Passengers are charged separately, and additional port charges and fuel surcharges may apply. Check the operator’s booking website for the total price before purchasing.
To give you an idea, for a small vehicle, the car ferry price starts at RM280 return for the car only with adult passengers costing from RM45.
Meanwhile, for motorcycles, a return ferry ticket starts at RM98 plus the passenger charge as above.
I recommend that you purchase your car ferry from Perlis to Langkawi tickets beforehand especially if you plan to travel during weekends or the peak season. They often sell out.
You can find Langkawi Roro Ferry Services here and Langkawi Auto Express here. Wantas Roro is here.
The car ferry is expensive. There is parking available near the jetty if you wish to leave your car behind instead.
Also anyone taking their vehicle should check your chosen operator’s documentation and check-in requirements. You may need to submit your vehicle registration documents several days before departure, and vehicle check-in can be one to two hours before sailing.
If you’re travelling in a hire car, confirm that your rental company permits you to take it to Langkawi before booking the vehicle ferry.
If you don’t wish to purchase your tickets online in advance, you can buy them on arrival at the jetty. There is a ticket stand opposite the jetty and it is straightforward. However, note that this only opens an hour or so before the departure time and it closes early if all tickets are sold out.

Getting To Kuala Perlis Jetty
It’s easy to get to Kuala Perlis Jetty as it’s just a five-minute walk from Kuala Perlis bus terminal. You can look at bus timetables here.
You can also take a Grab here from nearby places.
If you are travelling from other parts of Malaysia, we can book you a private transfer with a safe and reliable local operator that can drop you off at the Kuala Perlis Jetty all set for your ferry ride to Langkawi.

Arriving In Kuah

On arrival on a passenger ferry, you simply need to walk off your ferry and then walk through the terminal building. It’s a much bigger terminal than in Kuala Perlis but just keep walking with the crowds straight ahead and you’ll soon be outside.
Kuah is not that convenient to most beach resorts in Langkawi and the main areas where tourists stay.
There are taxis available on arrival at the Jetty or you can save money by booking one on the Grab app. I also had many drivers asking me if I needed a ride on arrival so it will usually not be hard to find someone to drive you.
However, if you travel at a busy time, you may have to wait a while for a taxi or Grab. A friend of mine travelled over just before New Years and had to wait 40 minutes for a Grab.
Since it was so busy, she also had to pay surge prices – RM42 to Pantai Cenang whereas I paid RM23. At busy times, it could be worth trying to book a transfer with your hotel ahead of time so you know you have an easy ride waiting for you.

You can also hire a car or motorbike from here which can be a very affordable option.
There are buses from the jetty into central Kuah, but it’s much more recommended to take a Grab taxi on arrival.

If you want to take the ferry from Langkawi to Kuala Perlis, all you need to do is to take the transportation options described above in reverse.
Passenger ferries run daily from Kuah Jetty. Ferries start from 7:30am and usually finish at 7:30pm. The cost for a one-way fare is RM47 per adult. This is all subject to change.

Meanwhile, if you’re after a Langkawi car ferry to Kuala Perlis, you have the same operators as on the way over. They all have car ferries that depart once or twice a day from Jetty Langkawi (Tanjung Lembung).
You can book the Wantas Roro easily here which currently leaves at 9:30am – but always check the latest schedule.
Again, all ferries can book out so it is best to book in advance. Schedules vary as well. Links to all the companies can be found above.
