Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Review

Address: No. 4 Jalan Conlay, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur
The Pullman Kuala Lumpur is one of the best places to stay in Malaysia with kids. This five-star hotel is perfect for families looking for a central, kid-friendly hotel in KL.
If you want a central location, this Pullman is perfect. It’s slap bang in the middle of everything with KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre) just a short walk away. Here, you can find shopping, huge parks and many KL attractions, especially some great family ones like the aquarium and Petrosains Discovery Centre.
It’s also in Bukit Bintang with the Pavilion shopping centre just moments away as well.

This hotel has some fantastic accommodation options for families, including one- and two-bedroom family apartments with separate living and dining areas and fully equipped kitchens. There are also spacious three-bedroom apartments for families who need even more room.
There are gaming consoles in The Zone and movies in the home theatre. Happy kids, happy parents, happy family.
The hotel also has a swimming pool.
Best parts?
The location is fabulous. The family apartments are fantastic.
Worst parts?
It is a pricier option for Kuala Lumpur, but this is a five-star hotel.
Summary?
This family-friendly hotel is a great choice if you want a central, great hotel in KL with great rooms.

Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur Review

Address: 1, Jalan Imbi, Bukit Bintang, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
The Berjaya Times Square Hotel is one of the best family accommodation options in Malaysia. It is one of our favourite places to stay anywhere and we have stayed here 8+ times! This is because it has great facilities, family-friendly rooms and it’s also got a FABULOUS location.
The Berjaya Times Square Hotel is located on top of the Berjaya Times Square which is a huge shopping centre with over 1,000 shops, restaurants and many things to do within the property. This makes a stay at this Kuala Lumpur family hotel just so easy. You are only ever a very short stroll from tons of eating options and things to do as well as services like a medical centre (we have visited it – quick, easy and affordable!).
The shopping centre located here has some fun things to do, like the second largest indoor theme park in Asia. You can also watch a movie or go bowling. There is a cheap and easy hawker centre on the basement level and many other fabulous eating options. It also has a monorail station so getting around is easy.
This family accommodation in Kuala Lumpur has the biggest city hotel pool I have seen as well as two kids’ pools and a playground. Photos don’t do it justice. There is a gym and multiple eating options.
Click here for the latest prices.

The rooms at this hotel are also great for families with the superior room type – the cheapest type – being like a one-bedroom apartment with separated living and bedroom areas, a kitchenette and bathroom. Young kids can sleep on the couches and there are also rollaways (at an extra fee) and cots available.
We have also stayed in a lovely premier room, but we prefer the superior thanks to the separated living/bedroom areas and think this works best for a family. Although, note that the superior rooms have not been renovated in a while and are showing their age. They also may give you a different room type at check-in. They usually try to upgrade us.
There are also family rooms with a bunk bed and double bed.
For more space, the two-bedroom apartments are the best option. We stay in this room type now our kids are older and it works perfectly with plenty of space and lots of light.
Berjaya Times Square Hotel is our pick for the best kid-friendly hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
You can read more in our full review of the Berjaya Times Square here.
Best Parts?
The family-friendly rooms, the huge pool and the fabulous location on top of Berjaya Times Square. In terms of value – this is one of the best Kuala Lumpur family hotels – you get a lot for your money.
Worst Parts?
It’s not the newest kid-friendly hotel in Kuala Lumpur, and the hotel is showing its age in some of the rooms. The windows aren’t soundproofed.
Summary?
If you’re looking for a family-friendly hotel in Kuala Lumpur with spacious rooms, excellent facilities and great value, this is a fantastic option.

Sunway Resort Hotel, Kuala Lumpur/Petaling Jaya Review

Address: Persiaran Lagoon, Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya
The Sunway Resort Hotel is a great choice for people looking for fun family resorts in Kuala Lumpur who don’t mind being out of the city centre in return for being in a whole world of entertainment and activities.
Located in Petaling Jaya, a city 30 minutes from the centre of Kuala Lumpur, this hotel also makes a great alternative to Kuala Lumpur on an airport stopover. It is closer to KL Airport than Kuala Lumpur itself. It’s also perfect for families looking for a staycation close to Kuala Lumpur.
It’s easy to spend a few days just exploring the whole Sunway world – this hotel is located by Sunway Lagoon, a massive, fun theme park, and the big shopping centre, Sunway Pyramid. We have done just that and had fun going to the cinema, ice skating and shopping in Sunway Pyramid as well as spending a full day at Sunway Lagoon.
Click here for the latest prices.

The Sunway Resort Hotel also has its own facilities with a massive swimming pool and restaurants. If you are looking for a Kuala Lumpur hotel with water slide, there are plenty here! A “Waterventure” area with a water playground, some awesome small water slides and shallow pools makes for a fabulous kids play area.
There is also a fun kids’ club called Wonderland Explorers. Add in the many eating options in Sunway Pyramid, and this is a very easy place to stay for families.
Following its extensive renovation, there are some fabulous family “terrace” suites made for families of four. The waterventure terrace room leads straight out to the waterventure area for easy fun.
Best Parts?
The proximity to Sunway Pyramid shopping centre and Sunway Lagoon theme park makes this a great choice. There is a lot to do without leaving here. It’s worthy of its five-star rating and is a great place to stay.
Worst Parts?
It’s not in the city centre of KL, so if this is important to you, check out one of the hotels above.
Summary?
This is a great choice for families who want a fun break with everything close by. It’s also a fantastic alternative to staying in central Kuala Lumpur for a few days during a stopover.

Shangri-La Golden Sands, Penang Review

Address: Batu Ferringhi Beach, Penang
The Golden Sands in Penang is a beautiful, family-friendly resort. Located at one end of the popular Batu Ferringhi beach, this resort is easy to reach and very well located. In minutes, you can be at the night market and among many restaurants and shops. And, of course, you have the beach right out the front.
The Golden Sands is part of the Shangri-La brand so expect quality. However, this is also a very family-friendly resort, so it is more relaxed than the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang next door. It has won prizes for being one of the best resorts for kids in Malaysia.
There are many fun and practical facilities here, so you don’t need to ever leave if you don’t want to. It is home to an awesome kids’ club called Cool Zone. There are also daily activities and Adventure Zone.
Adventure Zone is a large indoor play area with some seriously adventurous slides, so it appeals to both younger and older kids (and even parents!). Standard admission costs extra, although resort guests receive discounted rates and some accommodation packages include complimentary access.
The best part of this family-friendly resort is definitely the huge outdoor pool area between the hotel and the beach. There are many pools and a water playground area called Splash Zone. There is also a family activities programme to enjoy and pool and foosball tables, tennis courts and beach volleyball all located in the big pool area. It’s all a lot of fun.
Click here for the latest prices.
There are two restaurants, two lounges and a great breakfast buffet. We loved having lunch by the pools!
There is a range of room types. Most rooms feature a king or two single beds plus have an additional sofa bed or a single bed that pops out of the wall (my kids loved that!). When we travelled here with two young kids, one of these rooms worked nicely. Cribs are available.
With older kids, they have connecting rooms and I recommend two rooms. They also have a family combo room which is made up of two connecting rooms but one of the rooms is adventure-themed for kids and has a tree house inspired loft bed and a tent with a single bed.
If you can afford the splurge, I also recommend getting a sea view. These rooms have awesome views as well as look out over the resort’s facilities. The rooms are on the simpler side but functional and have everything you need and would expect for a four-star hotel.
Plus this resort has a turndown service in the evening which includes a room tidy. I find this such a bonus when travelling with kids.
Best parts?
If you’re booking a family holiday, this is a great resort. The location is great and the facilities are fantastic.
Worst parts?
The rooms could be bigger and nicer and it would be great if they added some rooms specifically for families with two or more kids that weren’t connecting.
Summary?
Overall, this is a very easy, fun and nice resort to hang out when in Penang. In terms of a central spot, it has one of the best locations out of the resorts in Penang and I highly recommend it.

Bayview Beach Resort Review

Address: 56, Jalan Low Yat, Puncak Ria, Batu Ferringhi, Penang
Bayview Beach Resort is a great family-friendly resort in Penang, offering easy access to the city’s notable destinations. As with most family-friendly hotels, it comes with excellent on-site facilities including an indoor playland.
There’s also everything you need for a fun family holiday, including a large swimming pool, a couple of other pools, a kids’ water playground, babysitting service and water sports.
This hotel is right on the beach so it’s easy to enjoy that too!
There are a few different eating options and bars as well as other restaurant choices around the resort.
Click here for the latest prices.

There is a range of room types including special family options. You can book a family room with two bedrooms for privacy and I recommend a room with a sea view. It’s great!
Best Parts?
The rooms are clean and spacious, the staff are friendly and the facilities are superb. Overall, it’s definitely worth the price and perhaps the best-value resort for families on this list.
Worst Parts?
It’s a little removed from the main area of Batu Ferringhi. It’s not as luxurious an option as the other resorts in Penang on this list.
Summary?
If you’re in Penang, this is a great resort to consider with the kids. It has great family rooms and great on-site facilities to keep the entire family entertained.

Hard Rock Hotel Penang Review
Address: Batu Ferringhi Beach, Batu Ferringhi, Penang
The Hard Rock Hotel Penang is another great contender for the best family resort in Malaysia in Penang, which brings the quality Hard Rock brand to everything it does.
Located directly on Batu Ferringhi beach, this hotel is a little bit of a walk (or shuttle) ride from the main action of Batu Ferringhi. There are a few restaurants and shops in the surrounding area though and it’s right next door to the Bayview listed above.
There is a huge range of room types here with some excellent options for families. The Roxity Kids’ Suites are the best option and come with a separate sleeping area for the kids complete with PlayStation, toys, books, their own minibar and kids’ room service menu!
The courtyard option also gives a private outdoor play area for your kids. These rooms are one of a kind and absolutely brilliant for families.
Click here for the latest prices.
The facilities at this hotel are also perfect for families with not just a kids’ club, but a teens’ club and infant club too! This means kids of all ages have a great space to hang out and/or play.
The outside area is even better. There is a huge pool lagoon area complete with a perfect water playground. There are often live music and activities out here too. You can easily spend whole days relaxing here!
Best Parts?
The high quality of everything – the rooms, the outside pool area and the kids’ clubs.
Worst Parts?
Unfortunately, the location is a little removed from the main Batu Ferringhi area. Larger families may also need to book connecting rooms rather than a single family suite.
Summary?
This is one of the best family resorts in Malaysia and a great choice for your Penang stay as long as you don’t mind being a little away from the action.

Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa, Langkawi Review

Address: Pantai Cenang, Langkawi, Kedah
The Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa is a top choice for families thanks to its great facilities, family room choices and its central location in family-friendly Langkawi.
This hotel is in a great spot in the main beach area of Langkawi, Pantai Cenang. This means you can be in the centre of things in minutes with many eating and shopping options to choose from. It can be hard to be somewhere central while still on a great beach with plenty of space and facilities for kids but the Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa ticks all these boxes.
There is a range of room types, including two family room choices.
Click here for the latest prices.

As you would expect for a five-star hotel, there are many facilities including two outdoor, gorgeous swimming pools and a great water play area with slides for kids (pictured above).
The resort also features a gym, sauna and bicycle rental. There’s a kids’ club with activities as well as a mini-farm with animals.
Other facilities include two restaurants, a lounge and a pool bar. You are also just a short walk from many other eating options. And, of course, you have a beautiful beach to enjoy.
Best parts?
The great facilities, beachfront and central location.
Worst parts?
The family rooms are only suitable for up to four people.
Summary?
The Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa is the perfect choice for families looking for a family-friendly resort in a central location in Langkawi.
Click here for more information and the latest prices.
Four Seasons Langkawi Review
Address: Jalan Tanjung Rhu, Langkawi, Kedah
If you are looking for the absolute best family resort in Malaysia, I think this is it!
The Four Seasons Langkawi is a jungle-cloaked island resort tucked away within a UNESCO World Geopark. With a private 1.8 kilometre beach stretching along the Andaman Coast, it is a quiet, family-oriented retreat.
Getting there is easy with the resort being only 20 kilometres from the Langkawi International Airport.
Accommodation ranges from spacious pavilions and one-bedroom villas to spectacular multi-bedroom beachfront villas, with garden or sea views and private pools available in selected categories.
There are also luxurious three- and five-bedroom villas for larger families or groups. The Imperial Three-Bedroom Beach Villa, for example, can accommodate up to six adults and three children, with plenty of space to relax together.
Kids will love the wide range of activities here. The daily program for children aged 4 to 12 includes batik painting, safari cruises, treasure hunts and kids’ yoga. For teenagers, there is archery, rock climbing, henna tattoo design and many other exciting options sure to keep them smiling.
Click here for the latest prices.
For some family time together, attend a cooking class, go kayaking or kite-flying on the beach. There is almost too much to choose from!
For the parents, the opportunities for adventure here are endless. Activities include snorkelling, birdwatching, mangrove safaris, island-hopping and golf. Take a walk through the rainforest or spend a lazy day on the private beach, doing as much or as little as you’d like.
Instead of the usual restaurant meal, let the resort cook up a BBQ feast to enjoy on your villa’s patio or beach, and then hang out around the bonfire to roast marshmallows and shoot the breeze.
Dining options range from casual family meals to traditional Malaysian cuisine and open-air dining. Enjoy a drink at the resort’s bar to wind down after a hard day.
Best Parts?
The Four Seasons offers a wide range of exciting family activities both on- and off-site. It’s a first-class choice.
Worst Parts?
It is a very large resort so it will take you some time to get from one side to the other. However, there is a buggy service to help get you around. It’s the most expensive resort on this list.
Summary?
The Four Seasons Langkawi is only 20 minutes from the airport and surrounded by both the jungle and beach along the Andaman Coast. There are plenty of fun activities here for your next family getaway.
Click here for the latest prices.
Avillion Port Dickson Review

Address: 3rd Mile, Jalan Pantai, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan
The Avillion Port Dickson is a resort for budget-conscious families. We have stayed here on multiple occasions and while the rooms are tired and run-down, there are some great facilities for families and the rooms work well for families of four.
Located on the coast at one of Port Dickson’s best beaches, the Avillion Port Dickson has over-water chalets. I was initially unsure whether this would be safe with kids, but there was no need to worry and the novelty is as fun for kids as it is for adults.
The chalets are perfect for families as they also have a day bed in them as big as a double bed which is a great place for the kids to sleep. They are also some of the cheapest over-water chalets I have come across anywhere in the world, so that is a huge bonus, especially as the facilities at the Avillion are also awesome for families.
If you have older kids, there are two-bedroom over-water chalet options as well. If you prefer, the hotel also has rooms on the mainland as well.
Click here for the latest prices.

The resort has some fantastic pools. One is adults-only, but your kids will prefer the family one with the adjoining pool with the water slide anyway. There is a petting zoo which is great with younger kids. They can feed and pet the animals every morning.
The outside, in general, is great with beautiful gardens, signs giving information on the different plants and facilities and many small attractions like a butterfly patch and spice farm.
There is also a kids’ club for an extra charge and easy access to the public beach as well as a small private beach.
There are dining options as well. The food is an ok price for a resort, but it does get a bit boring after a few days. There are other eating options in the area although most only open at night.
Best Parts?
The chance to stay in an over-water chalet and the beautiful gardens and pool area. Hearing the water as you watch the sea from your day bed.
Worst Parts?
The resort is showing its age and the rooms really need a renovation. Service at reception and check-in is bad. You can’t avoid stairs in this resort.
Summary?
If you want a beach break from Kuala Lumpur or are looking for somewhere on a KL stopover (this resort is a short drive from KL airport), the Avillion Port Dickson is an affordable choice.
Click here for the latest prices or you can find our full review here.
Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson Review

Address: 12th Mile, Jalan Pantai, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan
Another fabulous family resort is the Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson. It is located in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, about an hour and 15 minutes from the capital of Kuala Lumpur. Every villa comes with its own private pool and steam room.
If you are looking for a family retreat, these villas are just perfect. They are comfortable, private, and with your own pool in an overwater villa, you won’t want to leave!
The hotel is nestled on the coastline of Pasir Panjang Beach. It features 639 rooms. There are pool villas as well as suites within the hotel’s tower. Basic hotel amenities like air-conditioning, WiFi, snacks, and room service are offered as well.
On the second floor, you’ll find Kidz World Playcentre, a multi-level activity area. There are also water sports, bike hire, archery and more!
Click here for the latest prices.

There’s a spa, gym, and classy karaoke lounge for the adults.
There are some great dining options here which are top rate. We had the best sashimi of our lives at the on-site Japanese restaurant as well as great experiences in all the other eating establishments.
Best Parts?
Being in your own private pool in an over-water villa? Life doesn’t come better than this! The resort has a luxurious feel and offers plenty of fun activities. It’s relatively close to KL Airport, perfect for short stopovers or any type of trip really. The on-site dining is fantastic as well.
If you have one of the top room categories, you also get a free cocktail service in the evening with snacks and drinks.
Worst Parts?
The hotel is quite spread out. If your room is far out on the water, you’ll be walking a while to get there. The upside is that they have a buggy service which is quick. While the price of the rooms is great for what you get, many of the activities, such as Kidz World, require an additional fee.
Summary
The Lexis Hibiscus Port Dickson is a great place to stay if you’re after a lot of exciting things to do in the one location with your own luxurious pool. It’s not for the budget backpacker, but if you have a little to spend and want to treat your family to a great holiday, it’s perfect.
Our kids absolutely love it here.

Legoland Malaysia Resort, Johor Bahru Review

Address: No 7, Persiaran Medini Utara 3, Bandar, Johor Bahru, Johor
Nowhere in Malaysia is there a cooler resort for kids than the Legoland Malaysia Resort! This Lego-themed resort is going to delight all kids (and adults) interested in Lego or young enough to love any type of theming.
Located on the same site as Legoland Malaysia, you are definitely not going to get bored here. This is a short drive to Johor Bahru and Singapore and is for people wanting to explore the theme park – I would not recommend it as a base to explore the region.
However, even if you are somehow not interested in the theme park itself, I think you will still love a night here!
The best part is the rooms. There are five themes to choose from: Pirate, Kingdom, Adventure, NINJAGO and Friends. Most rooms are designed with families in mind, while larger rooms and suites are available for families needing more space.
Rooms have two separate sleeping areas – one for adults with a king-sized bed and one for up to 3 children with a bunk bed, pull-out trundle bed and their own TV. They will love their special space (as will you!).
Click here for the latest prices.

The best facility here is obviously Legoland Malaysia. This theme park is great, especially for younger kids and kids who love Lego. There is also a water park and SEA LIFE aquarium.
For hotel guests, there are Lego activities and events throughout the day from meeting Lego characters to dance parties to nightly movies. There is also a swimming pool, Lego play area and puzzle activities to unlock secret treasure in your room!
There is also a Lego-themed restaurant.
Best Parts?
This hotel is crazy fun for families with great rooms, activities and facilities.
Worst Parts?
It’s a distance from other local attractions (but oh-so-close to Legoland).
Summary?
This place goes far beyond being one of the best kid-friendly resorts to being a kid-centric resort that the whole family will absolutely LOVE. It’s my top pick for family fun in Malaysia.
Click here for the latest prices or you can find our full review here.
Shangri-La Rasa Ria, Sabah Review
Address: Pantai Dalit Tuaran, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
For families looking for a kid-friendly resort in Sabah, Borneo, it’s hard to beat Shangri-La Rasa Ria. It is a beautiful tropical retreat set on a pristine stretch of Pantai Dalit Beach and is surrounded by 400 acres of tropical rainforest.
Book the kids into a family room, which are Malaysian-themed in either the Garden or Ocean Wing. The accommodation is in a fabulous location between the beach and the rainforest which provides fantastic views of the beach or the surrounding rainforest.
When it comes to resort activities, there is so much here for kids to do, including the Cool Zone Kids’ Club, games, cultural activities and plenty of outdoor adventures.
One of the highlights is the Rasa Ria Reserve, where families can explore the Discovery Centre, enjoy guided nature experiences and learn about Borneo’s remarkable wildlife and rainforest environment. The resort also offers a wide range of scheduled activities, although some experiences cost extra and require advance booking.
Click here for the latest prices.
Other resort activities can include water sports, beach games, cultural experiences and guided outdoor adventures. There is also an eco-friendly championship golf course and spa at Dalit Bay.
There’s a good variety of food to choose from too for those fussy eaters. The on-site restaurants serve Indian, Italian, even teppanyaki, which is always fun for the whole family.
Best Parts?
There is so much to do here for families, and having a kids’ club gives mum and dad a good break too.
Worst Parts?
With so much to do for families, this is a popular resort and can tend to get a little crowded during peak seasons. The food is expensive.
Summary?
Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort is the perfect choice for families wanting a luxurious getaway in Malaysia.
Click here for the latest prices.
Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, Sabah Review
Address: No. 20, Jalan Aru, Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
Our final recommendation is Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, a beautiful beachfront resort in Kota Kinabalu. Located just 10 minutes from the city, it promises a tranquil retreat in an idyllic beachfront setting for the whole family.
This tropical resort features a variety of contemporary-styled rooms and suites inspired by the rich colours and textures of Borneo nature and offers captivating views of the ocean or the impressive Mount Kinabalu. Kids will love the bunk beds and child-friendly furniture that are in the family room along with their special welcome pack.
If you are looking for a hotel with a pool slide in Malaysia or a resort with activities in Malaysia, this is a great choice. At the resort, the kids will love the mini water park with water slides and water battle stations with a water balloon launcher.
There are SO many activities available for the kids to do. The kids’ club ‘Cool Zone’ is open every day and has a packed timetable of things to do, including a themed party every Friday night.
Now that the kids are occupied, the adults can go swimming in the outdoor pool, go golfing or get a massage at the CHI Spa.
Click here for the latest prices.
For a quieter breakfast, head to the breakfast area with an outdoor play space for kids. At dinner, you’re bound to find something to suit everyone, with choices ranging from Italian and Chinese cuisine to beachside BBQs and seafood. And for dessert, you can’t go past the ice cream bar!
Once the kids have gone to bed, the adults can finish the day with a Sabah Golden Sunset Cocktail at the Sunset Bar.
Best Parts?
Plenty of family fun activities, particularly for the kids. The resort is also located in a stunning beachfront location yet only minutes from the city.
Worst Parts?
Some guests claim that it can get busy over the weekends given day passes are available.
Summary?
The Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru is a gorgeous beachfront resort just minutes from the city and full of activities for families. Staying here should be part of a family holiday in Malaysia!
